While particular emphasis is placed on these specific goals, it is a fundamental principle of MNGFFL that all activities, social and athletic, are conducted to be inclusive in nature and that no individual shall be excluded from participating on the basis of sexual orientation, gender, race, religion, nationality, ethnic origin, political beliefs, athletic ability, physical challenge, HIV status or gender identity. Teams representing these leagues participate in the national tournament titled Gay Bowl, hosted every Indigenous Day Weekend in a different member city. We play to build bridges and break down stereotypes within and beyond our own community by creating a uniquely welcoming environment to play recreational flag football with integrity and sportsmanship.

After hearing the news, many sports fans initially thought the National Gay Flag Football League was a joke. However, once they realized it was real, the NFL faced backlash.
The NYGFL strives to break down stereotypes and build community through the sport of flag football. Players return year after year for the on-field competition, off-field fun, and access to a supportive and inclusive community. Since its early beginnings, the league has grown to over players and has fielded as many as 20 teams in a season! The Open Division is open to all skill levels, from those who have played for years to those who have never been on a football field.
